On December 31, 2011, First SunAmerica Life Insurance Company (FSA) merged into its SunAmerica Financial Group sister company, The United States Life Insurance Company in the City of New York (US Life).

Why did we make this decision? Strength. Combining these two companies simplifies our corporate structure and creates a larger, stronger entity for issuing business in New York. US Life has been keeping promises to American families and businesses for more than 150 years.

We are also using this opportunity to extend the rich history of the Western National brand to our New York customers. Western National has been distributing fixed annuities outside of New York for over 60 years and is a leading distributor of fixed annuities through financial institutions. As part of this initiative, you will begin to see the Western National brand on New York communication materials and online along with the US Life name. The branding will be introduced in a phased manner, culminating in the switch to a revamped website on March 1, 2012.

For our customers, this means business as usual. The merger will not affect contract provisions or values. Your annuity contracts will still be administered by the same experienced, responsive customer service team. After December 31, 2011, US Life will be the issuer of all contracts in the State of New York.
